Logistics

  • Location: local libraries, neighborhood community rooms and other neutral places are recommended. They are usually accessible to all people and they avoid potential discomfort for people who prefer not to meet in a place of worship or a brewery. The more diverse your participants are, the stronger the coalition will be.

  • Pick a date and time that will be convenient for many people in your community.

  • Try to have your workshop near public transportation or ask people to give rides to those who need rides.

  • Pick a child friendly location and/or consider offering childcare.

Promotion:

  • Reach out to diverse organizations to promote your workshop. Unions, civic groups (like the NAACP, the Kiwanis…), places of worship, PTA, environmental groups, Chamber of Commerce, groups that advocate to help the poor and marginalized communities. Request that they send a member from their organization to attend the workshop.

  • Send out a press release to your local media: newspaper, radio and TV.

  • Make flyers to hand in libraries, colleges, schools, laundry mats and other public bulletin boards.

  • Use social media to help spread the word.

  • Start building your own contact list to be able to send out emails and communications to.
